Notes from our Certified Fitters:
Always contact your physician and or therapist to determine the correct compression strength for your condition. Sigvaris hose should be replaced after six months of normal wear. They start losing their effectiveness after that time. If they seem to be getting looser, than you are not receiving the maximum benefits of their compression strength.

Part of one of the largest variety of compression stockings in the industry, Sigvaris provides products that are ideal for every lifestyle and specialized need.

Sigvaris Access is the new line of basic medical compression hosiery, replacing the 960 Value Care Series. Economical and affordable, it maintains the same quality, durability, and effectiveness for which Sigvaris is recognized throughout the world.

Caring For Sigvaris Medical Therapy Products:

Products may be machine washed on gentle cycle using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Manufacturer suggests using SIGVARIS Washing Solution for best results.

For all sheer SIGVARIS products and the Natural Rubber Series, hand washing is recommended.

To protect the garment during washing, it is recommended to use a lingerie bag.

Rinse well and air-dry.

Do not use bleach or fabric softeners and avoid tumble drying.

Stockings with Silicone beads or Sensinnov band: For optimum performance of the silicone beads or Sensinnov band, wipe the silicone regularly with a clean cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol. This removes skin oils and lint from clothing that could decrease the effectiveness of the silicone.

Stockings with Velcro™ attachment: Before washing, please match and fasten the two pieces together. This protects the Velcro™ and ensures optimum long-term performance.

Measuring for Sigvaris Compression Stockings:

It is recommended that you mark the leg with a non-permanent, non-toxic marker at each circumference measurement made.

General Guidelines

  • Measurements should always be taken as soon as possible after waking when swelling is minimum
  • Measure next to bare skin
  • The measuring system is based on having the foot flat against the floor and the leg at a right angle to the foot
  • Measurements must be taken by pulling the tape snugly around the leg but without constriction
  • Measurements should be taken from the ground up

Measuring Instructions for Knee High (Calf) Style

1. Measure the ankle circumference at the narrowest part of the ankle, above the ankle bone. Use the appropriate series sizing chart to determine if ankle is Small, Medium, Large, or X-Large.
This should be your first measurement.

2. Measure the calf circumference at the fullest part of the calf.

3. Determine the calf length by measuring from the floor up to the bend of the knee. This measurement is taken on the outside of the calf.

Measuring Instructions for Thigh High and Pantyhose Styles

1. Measure the ankle circumference at the narrowest part of the ankle, above the ankle bone. Use the appropriate series sizing chart to determine if ankle is Small, Medium, or Large.
This should be your first measurement.

2. Measure the calf circumference at the fullest part of the calf.

3. Measure the thigh at the widest circumference.

4. Determine the thigh length by measuring from the floor up to the gluteal fold.

About Leg Health:

Many factors contribute to the overall health of our legs: heredity, weight, age, diet and activity level. But it's the internal function of the legs that also plays an important role: calf muscles, arteries, veins, and vein valves--the internal highway of blood and oxygen flow.

Your Circulation:
The flow of blood in the veins is assisted by a series of one-way valves. The valves remain open when the blood flows toward the heart, and then closed after blood passes through. Over time, an increase in pressure can stretch the vein walls. If a vein becomes enlarged and over-stretched the valves cannot close properly, causing blood to leak back down into the lower legs, resulting in poor circulation.

If this happens you may begin to develop symptoms, such as:

  • Heavy, tired, aching legs
  • Swollen legs and/or ankles
  • Sensation of warmth in the legs
  • Tingling or cramping of the legs
  • Dull or sharp pain in the calf
  • Small varicose veins and spider veins

Using Compression Therapy:
Graduated compression stockings and socks are important to leg health. They help minimize muscle aches, swelling, and symptoms of fatigue. Exercise and a healthy lifestyle will strengthen your legs, but wearing graduated compression stockings or socks will support the internal function of the veins.

Sigvaris 920 / 970 Access Series for Men and Women is an affordable alternative to expensive medical compression hosiery. The 920 Series for Men is available in a black, ribbed, closed toe knee high sock. The 970 Series for Women includes closed toe knee high and open and closed toe pantyhose. An open toe unisex knee high and thigh high are also available. All are offered in compression strengths of both 20-30 and 30-40 mm Hg.

Sigvaris offers many other styles and strengths of compression stockings and socks for both women and men.

We recommend that donning gloves always be worn when applying your compression garments. These gloves have a gripping texture that makes it considerably easier to put on compression hose. Donning gloves also help to prevent tearing, snagging or putting a nail or finger through the garment. Other people prefer to use a donning aid like the Juzo Slippie Gator or Jobst Stocking Donner.

We also recommend either Sigvaris, Juzo, or Jobst Jolastic Special Washing Solutions for maintaining the quality of compression garments. Jobst Jolastic Wash is formulated to remove oil, body acids, and skin salts quickly and easily without damage to the fabric. This specially designed solution will help extend the life of all elastic garments. The ingredients in Jobst ensure excellent soil removal and are mild to the user's hands.

Midtown Health offers a large selection of many widely recognized and respected brands of compression socks, stockings, and other garments that fit every lifestyle and medical condition in many different styles and compression strengths.
